Dear Parents,

We are pleased to be informed by the ESF that our school, like a number of other European Schools, continues to implement the KiVa anti-bullying project.

KiVa offers tools to prevent bullying in a comprehensive way: involving pupils, teachers and parents. The programme helps to create a shared atmosphere of awareness, intervention and responsibility in addressing bullying cases.

After the kick-off events held in October, all P2, P4 and P5 classes have now started their KiVa lessons and in the long term all class teachers will have the relevant in-service training. According to the school, parents should be reassured that in the meantime all pupils in the primary can benefit from the KiVa programme.

Achieving a KiVa school culture will require all parties to understand the role they can take in making it happen. Therefore, and to give you an insight into this programme, the ESF and the Parents' Association invite you to an info session to be held at the ECB Eurotower in Kaiserstraße on 15 November 2016.

KiVa at the European School Frankfurt (ESF): “Information session on how it works in the ESF Primary School”

Following the launch of the KiVa programme in the primary section, the ESF and the Parents Association (PA) invite all parents of primary school children to a presentation on KiVa at 5.30pm on Tuesday, 15 November 2016. The presentation will be hosted by the ECB Directorate General Human Resources and will be held at the Eurotower of the European Central Bank, Kaiserstraße 29, in Conference Room C2.04.

KiVa is a research-based anti-bullying programme that has been developed in the University of Turku, Finland, and has been introduced in the primary sections of many of the European schools including the ESF.

This is your chance as parents to listen and talk to the experts at the ESF, Ms. Marja-Liisa Kärnä and Mr. Antonio Langarita (language teachers and certified KiVa trainers at the ESF) who will present you with the background of KiVa and shed some light on how the research-based programme is currently being implemented in the ESF. They will also present the content of the KiVa programme, used for student lessons with concrete examples from the ESF and the role of the KiVa team in the Primary School.

There will be opportunities to ask questions during the presentation as the topic is explored, as well as at the end of the session over drinks and finger food.

Mr Heinz Fischböck, Head of the Primary Cycle, together with the other members of the ESF KiVa Team, and the President of the Parents Association, Mr. Tony Obisesan, and other Board members of the PA, will also be present to contribute to the event.

If you and/or your partner would like to attend this event, please register yourself and/or your partner by Thursday, 10 November 2016, using the info available on the ECB intranet.  Should you require a visitor parking space, please also include your vehicle license plate details in the registration list. Partners of ECB staff or non-ECB parents of ESF primary pupils can send an email to the ECB Staff Info Point (Points@ecb.europa.eu) to be included in the above registration list. (Please note – the ECB has a limited number of reserved parking spaces for business visitors and your registration does not automatically guarantee a parking space).

External visitors are reminded to bring their passport or ID and allow some time for the security check at the ECB’s Visitor Entrance (Kaiserstraße 29). They should pick up their visitor badge from the Welcome Desk to the left of the Entrance Hall of the Eurotower building after accessing the ECB premises.

If you already have questions which you would like to be answered at the presentation, please contact the Parents Association (office@esfparents.org).
