In the Digitaltutor Coding Club, we learn to playfully program, build robots, design digitally and master funny challenges. How can we improve the future and our school? Out of this question, the students start a project.

 

Based on a concrete problem, we playfully get to know the entire product cycle in order to come up with a solution. Within the project team, each child finds its fitting role: as a creative concepter and designer, as a logician and coder, or as a communicator and manager, depending on favor and talent. 

Digitaltutor STEM Learning Platform

For coding we use visual programming languages like Scratch. Scratch is a visual programming language often used for educational purposes. Children as young as 8 years old use it to create games, animations, or interactive forms. Programming in Scratch actually means connecting colorful blocks that contain programming commands. Children connect these blocks intuitively and test which connections work – just like when building with LEGO bricks. Thanks to this method, simple programs are created almost organically and each program becomes an inspiration for the next one.

For higher grades and already experienced coders we look into real programming languages like Python or for scripting Javascript. 

For robotics our choice is the LEGO Education WeDo Set, which fits perfectly to the Scratch visual programming interface. LEGO Education WeDo is counted among the best tools for teaching robotics to children aged 7 to 11. The set can be programmed in the internationally known and esteemed Scratch programming language, enjoyed by teachers and students alike. 

First we create and build a construction, e.g. an hungry alligator robot, and then proceed to programming. The objective of the code is to allow the alligator to catch the unwary prey that appears nearby its jaws (alligators can be very patient by nature).  

With this innovative education offer, we focus on skills for the future and at the same time we guide the children to find a healthier use of digital media.

For a future in which the minds of tomorrow master the digitization, and none in which digitization dominates our children.

The digital tutoring Coding Club runs throughout the year and is limited to a maximum of 12 children. This Club is organized by Digitaltutor e.V., a local charity from Frankfurt am Main.
